This book was a little bit of a letdown for me. I was really hoping for some incredible recipes and completely new ideas. Doesn’t happen in this book. The author does give a lot of time to European cookies that I wasn’t familiar with, but they all had a similar basic cookie profile.
The recipes were presented well but I feel like they were phoned in a little. Rather than the tips/tricks and suggestions to make these cookies your own, it was just more dependent on lots of decorating the same old dough. I also could have used more explanation on some of the more difficult techniques. There were also some hard to find ingredients that the author merely suggested to try to find at a particular type of store. However, I find that brand suggestions or even better, a recipe to make the hard to find ingredient, is more useful when trying to compete with the resources the internet has. I buy books because I want all the information to be present in one place. This book didn’t wow me. It was a little bit of a same thing over and over and over. I was bored before I even finished it, and with the holidays approaching and my love of baking, it was the first time that’s happened in a while.
I received this book from Blogging for Books for this review.
