I am an obsessive knitter. I have been knitting since college and have been inspired by knitting for many years, even resulting in designing my own patterns for a variety of uses. With that being said, I was over the moon to see a Nicky Epstein book pop up for review. I am familiar with her work and while I don’t own any of her books, she is a very prolific designer with rave reviews.
The picture on the cover is a good representation of what is going on in the book. I have to admit that it is not to my personal taste. All the pieces integrate innovative design elements with garments and accessories. I just think it is a little too much on all the patterns. Categories like “Directionals” help the reader understand unconventional construction. Nicky does a great job explaining and gives the reader access to customized options.
My personal taste runs a little simpler. If I make any of the patterns from the book, I will remove half the design elements. Everything is too busy for everyday wear. I think that the pieces will be excellent with a simpler theme.
With that being said, I think the book is organized, great pictures, clear instructions, and great schematics.
I received this book for free from Blogging for Books for this review.
